1925
BACKGROUND
During the planning phase for the Rostselmash plant (1925-1927), N.P. Krutikov, a future associate professor at the North Caucasus Institute of Agricultural Engineering, visited the USA with a group of engineers to study agricultural machinery production.
A special design group was created specifically for the Rostselmash plant project.
Professor Krutikov recalled: "At that time, the design of the factory posed a very complex problem. There was no such plant in the Soviet Union or anywhere in the world. The concepts of 'conveyor' and 'production flow' required exceptionally convincing arguments, calculations, and research. I was sent to the USA and visited 63 machine-building factories. This had a decisive influence on further design. The first design was based on horse-drawn machinery production, but the need for tractor-powered machines led to revisions. Several partial and two fundamental redesigns were carried out."
